A new NHS dental surgery has opened at a high street retail store in Manchester, allowing shoppers to pop in for a quick check-up.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the clinic – named Ocean Dental – is open six days a week at the Boots outlet on Market Street in the city centre. It is the second dental surgery to open at a Boots shop in the UK, although the chain also offers GP walk-in clinics, opticians and hearing centres.
“The new dental surgery reflects our philosophy of promoting prevention as part of our service,” said Dr Nilesh Bhatt, clinical director and principal dentist at Ocean Dental. “We hope this will assist our patients to achieve and maintain a good standard of oral health.”
Local health bosses hope the new centre will help ease some of the pressure on Manchester’s stretched dental provisions, as well as making services more easily accessible for patients. There is also an NHS dental clinic at the Boots store on London’s Kensington High Street.
Earlier this month, Boots revealed that its like-for-like UK sales were up 4.1 per cent over the Christmas period.
