Flashy window displays are helping independent retailers in Brighton and Hove to boost their takings over the festive period.
As part of a scheme run by Brighton and Hove City Council, an expert window-dresser was brought in to give businesses in the area a makeover, in the hope of attracting Christmas shoppers and consumers on the lookout for a bargain in the Boxing Day sales.
According to a report by The Argus newspaper, 42 retailers in the city used banner stands and decorative poster frames to grab the attention of passing shoppers. About 3,500 members of the public have now voted for their favourite shop window as part of the Dressed for Success scheme. The winner is set to be announced next month.
Eve Reid from consultants Metamorphosis, who offered advice to the business owners, said: "Never has it been so important to make a big first impression.
"Working with the retailers has been a complete joy. They have fully embraced the project."
