Department store chain Debenhams has launched a new express shopping service as it aims to woo shoppers over the all-important festive season.
As part of the Christmas Express initiative, consumers who fill in a questionnaire will be allocated a personal shopper to lend a helping hand when it comes to finding the ideal gift. Customers will be able to provide details about gift recipients in order to make the process less stressful.
Debenhams revealed that the Christmas Express scheme – which is available free of charge – was a response to the needs of time-pressed customers in need of a little extra assistance with hunting down this year’s Christmas presents.
“We are expecting a high uptake on the appointments from businessmen and busy career women who are low on time – and energy – in the run up to Christmas,” said Soleta Oliver, commercial manager for store services at Debenhams. “People that break out into a sweat at the sheer thought of Christmas shopping have had their prayers answered with this service.”
Earlier in the month, the British Retail Consortium admitted that many British shops are depending on a strong festive season to offset the impact of weak performance over the rest of the year.
