Tesco chief hails Facebook app

Retail giant Tesco has unveiled its new Facebook app as part of its high-profile Big Price Drop promotion, allowing customers to choose which products they want to see added to the scheme. 


For the first time, users will be given the opportunity to tell the supermarket chain which items they would prefer to see cut in price. Consumers will also be able to see which products their friends have voted for, as well as other users from their region and throughout the UK. 


“We are committed to doing all we can to help our customers and our new Facebook application will enable them to tell us directly where they most value reduced prices,” said chief executive Richard Brasher. “The Big Price Drop is very popular with customers.” 


Mr Brasher added that the initiative had already helped to ease some of the pressure facing struggling shoppers, with rising inflation eating away at household income. Tesco has lowered the price of more than 3,000 products following the Big Price Drop’s launch. 


Earlier this week, the firm revealed that there had been an increase of around one million transactions per week at its stores since the scheme got underway.
