Supermarket giant Tesco has said an extra one million transactions are taking place in its stores each week, thanks to a huge nationwide promotion which began last month.
The company announced its Big Price Drop promotion at the end of September, saying it would invest £500m in order to lower the price of thousands of everyday items. Tesco said today that following the start of the campaign, customers had made an additional one million transactions per week purchasing discounted products.
Tesco estimated that it has saved its customers an average of £370,000 each week so far.
UK Chief Executive, Richard Brasher, said: "The Big Price Drop is very popular with customers and millions are already voting with their feet.
"In these tough times we are lowering the inflation customers experience on their weekly shop by reducing prices on more than 3,000 products that families need to buy most."
Tesco also announced today that is using social media to promote its offers. Customers can now log onto Facebook and vote for the items they would most like to see reduced in price.
