Leading supermarket Tesco has joined tributes to Apple co-founder and technology innovator Steve Jobs, who died earlier this week at the age of 56.
Tesco.com's head of research and development, Nick Lansley, discussed Jobs on his blog on behalf of the company - particularly with regard to the impact of products such as the iPhone and the iPad on consumer experience.
"The [iPhone] app was an instant hit," he said. "We found many customers could use the simplicity of their iPhone to locate their nearest Tesco - then products in that Tesco branch - using the simplest of taps and swipes of the finger.
“We could do it because the tools to allow the simplicity of that user-interface were, for the first time, at our command.
He added: "Thank you, Steve, for being one of the greatest innovators and inspiring me so much."
Jobs founded Apple with Steve Wozniak in 1976 and saw it tread a jagged path as a market leader, enjoying massive success in the last 15 years.
He died on Wednesday, 5 October after a long battle with cancer.
