John Lewis to expand in-store collection

Waitrose Canary Wharf

Department store John Lewis has revealed plans to more than double the size of its in-store collection scheme before the end of this year, with further development scheduled for 2012.

The group announced today that it intends to create Click and Collect facilities at 60 Waitrose outlets in areas not served by John Lewis shops. It aims to have a total of 119 collection points across the UK by late October.

Waitrose shops in Harrogate, Lincoln and Worcester will be among the first to receive new collection facilities as part of the initiative. Click and Collect was launched in February 2009 and is currently available at 28 John Lewis stores, 24 Waitrose supermarkets and a further four 'at-home' outlets.

"Of all John Lewis services, Click and Collect scores highest among our customers on recommending the service to others. That speaks volumes about the appetite for multichannel shopping," said the firm's chief executive Andy Street.

The retailer recently revealed that sales were up 2.6 per cent year-on-year at £53.4m during the week ending August 20, with online transactions surging by 33 per cent on the same point in 2010.
