High street shops are looking increasingly to expand their online offer in an attempt to lure back consumers.
A report on IT job vacancies for June has uncovered a major spike in the number of roles available in the retail sector. Data from Computer People's IT Monitor found a substantial increase in the number of vacancies recorded in retail for contractors.
Month-on-month the number of retail contract vacancies listed rose by 17.86 per cent in June, with 132 more jobs on offer compared to May. There was also a 6.59 per cent increase in permanent retail IT vacancies, up by 728 from the previous month.
Retailers across the country have turned to promotion-led strategies to attract customers. In addition, more firms are also realising the importance of having a strong web presence, capable of providing a significant revenue stream for the business.
The IT Monitor report said: "Companies like ASOS have set the pace for online shopping which others are now following."
