Car manufacturer Volkswagen has said it delivered more vehicles in the first half of 2011 than ever before in a six month period.
More than four million vehicles were sent to customers around the globe between January and June, representing a 14.1 per cent increase year-on-year.
June was an especially good month for the car maker, with more than 719,000 vehicles delivered – an 11.7 per cent increase on the same period in 2010.
Group board member for sales, Christian Klingler, said the firms "convincing range of models" would help the company to outperform competitors during the second half of the year, but stressed it would not be an easy task.
He said: "Delivery figures for the first half of the year are very satisfactory. Our performance demonstrates the strength of our model range.
"Success in the second six months won't be automatic. Plenty of hard work lies ahead to keep our deliveries during the second half of the year at a high level."
